What are Barcode/ Smokers lines?

More formally known as ‘perioral’ lip lines, they are those frustrating vertical lines that appear between the upper lip and nose over time. They occur due to the frequency lip pursing (smoking, drinking straw use) or pouting.

 

They are most common in smokers due to the additional effects smoking has on the collagen in the skin, but do not necessarily have to have been a smoker in the past for them to appear.

Aim of treatment. 

​

The aim treatment is reduce the prominence and further development of these upper lip wrinkle lines. 

 

By reducing the strong and excessive dynamic movements of the muscle which cause these barcode like lines, a more relax and diminish the movement pattern is achieved. Preventing the development and appearance of barcode lines, producing a smoother, younger and line-free look.

The botox injections are a simple and safe procedure, involving a several small injections into the orbicularis oris muscle so that it can no longer cause the skin to crease or fold.

​Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only procedure and will only be performed following our face-to-face medical consultation with a medical practitioner prior to botox being administered.
