What is Cupping?

Cupping refers to the ancient Islamic and Chinese medicine technique that has been used for centuries for many different conditions. Glass, bamboo, or silicone cups are placed on the skin, creating a vacuum-like seal from the lack of oxygen.

The superficial muscle layer is drawn up into the cup, which stimulates the circulation of blood, breaks up adhesions, and creates a pathway for toxins to be drawn out of the body through the lymphatic system.

It has been found that cupping can affect tissues up to 4 inches deep; affecting blood vessels, fascia, muscles, and scar tissue.

Who is it for:
Cupping is incorporated into a larger treatment plan, tailored to your goal, whether that is to reduce stress, improve blood circulation and reduce pain, relieve muscle aches, improve your sleep or mood.

Great for both athletes looking to improve performance/aid recovery or and those who work at a desk for long periods, resulting in tight back muscles and pain.

Treatment plan:
All plans are tailored to each individual needs and requirements. Some use therapeutic cupping as a one-off treatment, for a stress relief, however most benefit will be gained from having a course of treatment.
For treatment of a maximum benefits, we recommend 4 treatments over a 2- 3-month period, prior to switching to a maintenance plan

If deemed necessary other remedial techniques such as cupping, trigger point therapy etc can be incorporated into your therapy plan to ensure you get the full desired results

What to expect

-
You might be asked to undress to a level you are comfortable with.
-
This is to enable the therapist to work on the areas of the body. If you feel more comfortable wear body fitted clothing to prevent bare skin showing but allow the therapist to work. in any case your therapist will ensure you are covered throughout your session.
-
-
You might fall asleep
-
Judging by what cupping looks like, you would think it would be a painful experience. Quite the opposite. The feeling is very unique and usually very pleasant to the receiver. It feels like a gentle suction is pulling away tension and pressure from tight and painful muscles or areas of the body.

-
You might be left with cupping marks
-
Depending on the amount of suction and the state of the underlying tissues, it can leave circular marks that vary from a light yellow too dark purple.
