What is a "Gummy smile"?
Excessive gum exposure during smiling or laughing defines the gummy smile. Although completely harmless it can be a cause of embarrassment or an insecurity for many people who have them.
Types of Smile

This smile type results from the levator labii superioris muscle elevates the upper lip. If there is a natural over-contraction of this muscle, the gummy smile occurs. The levator labii superioris alaeque nasi can also play an important part in causing the gummy smile.
